| Sanda Communications to support Corvallis FIRST LEGO League tournament
CORVALLIS, Ore. - November 21, 2006 - Sanda Communications President Jerry W. Saveriano announced today the agency will be one of the partners for the FIRST LEGO League Local Qualifying Tournament, to be held December 2-3 at Linus Pauling Middle School. Sanda will design both the tournament program and T-shirts for participants, and Brain Brooks, Sanda's director of account development, will emcee the tournament.
"FIRST LEGO League is a great way to get kids interested in math, science and technology," Saveriano said. "As a company focused on helping clients bring new technologies to market, we want to encourage the next generation of scientists and engineers."
Sanda has been one of the partners for the annual Corvallis tournament since 2003. The 2006 theme, Nano Quest, will have participants exploring existing sciences at the molecular level.
FIRST LEGO League is an international program for children ages 9-14 (9-16 in Europe) that combines a hands-on, interactive robotics program with a sports-like atmosphere. Teams of up to 10 spend eight weeks designing, building, programming, testing and refining a fully autonomous robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS technology. Tournament participants will demonstrate their robot's capabilities on the competition table, be interviewed by a technical judging panel, present their Nano Quest research project and be assessed on teamwork skills throughout the day.
