Portland, Ore.December 3, 2002Sanda Communications
president Jerry W. Saveriano announced today that vice president
and creative director Scott McCannell has been named to the
American Advertising Museum board of directors. The museum
is a major exhibition, research and education center. It houses
the industrys most comprehensive collection of advertising
and business artifacts.
Scotts contributions to the board have proved
the old adage, There are those who talk about it and
those who do it, said John Mazzocco, executive
director of the museum. Scott is a doer, and whenever
asked, he has stepped up with time and energy.
I consider the old-timers like Claude Hopkins, John
Caples and David Ogilvythe guys who really believed
in good advertisings ability to sellto be my mentors,
McCannell said. During my first visit to the museum,
I thought, I want to help these guys. This is
the only shrine to my icons I know about. Thats why
Im willing to give so much time to what some might think
is a tribute to hucksterism.
The American Advertising Museum is located on the corner
of 5th and Davis in Old Town Portland. It features several
permanent and traveling exhibits that tour nationwide, including
Dream Girls, a retrospective of the female image
in advertising over the last 100 years. More information on
the American Advertising Museum can be found at www.admuseum.org.
