A Tree Grows in Brooklyn isn’t just the name of a famous novel; it’s also one of the reasons Bob Bedford is so busy.
Bedford Sewer & Drain is a full-service plumbing contractor handling an average of 20-30 service calls a day throughout the New York borough. Up to 10 percent of those calls may involve tree roots causing a backup in a homeowner’s sewer line, Bedford said. Previously, he used a snake tool to cut out the roots, but after seeing an ad in Cleaner magazine three years ago, he decided to try RootX as a low-investment alternative to buying jetter equipment.
Although RootX treatment is a small part of his business, Bedford said he always keeps half a case of 4-pound jars in his truck, and he recommends it regularly to his residential customers. He also registers customers for the RootX annual reminder program and follows up with calls to schedule another treatment. Since most homeowners only call when they have a backup, Bedford said he emphasizes the RootX guarantee and annual treatments to avoid future problems.
